ABOUT ME

I have a degree in Graphic Design from Universidad Iberoamericana Campus Santa Fe (Mexico City). I have started my plastic arts journey from an early age, beginning with painting at the Studio of Maestra Gilda Solis and drawing at the Taller de la Gráfica Popular. As part of my creative activity, I have participated in various workshops such as handmade paper with Maestra Bárbara Paciorek Paleta, figure drawing at the Claustro de Sor Juana, and ventured into wood carving at the Centro de Capacitación para el Trabajo (CECATI 25 ).

Rocio Olguin

My main artistic training has been at the San Carlos Academy in Mexico City as a student of human figure drawing, oil painting, painting with different techniques and materials, portraiture, and a vitreous enamel experimental workshop.

I currently live in Oaxaca, Mexico and I have had the opportunity to attend the drawing and engraving workshops at the Taller Rufino Tamayo, as well as courses provided at the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (CASA) including the experimental drawing workshop with Maestro Gabriel Macotela, drawing techniques with Maestra Sandra Pani, and drawing with experimental graphics taught by Maestra Bela Gold.

Regarding participations and exhibitions, I can highlight two collective exhibitions where I have been both a participant, and a project leader: "Las Vías para Llegar al Arte" at Casa de Cultura del Periodista in Mexico City, and the collective exhibition "Expresiones" at Casa de la Cultura Oaxaqueña (2014). Other recent exhibitions have been "El Encuentro Contemporáneo de Artes Plásticas Sur-Sureste" (2013), at the Gran Salón Villahermosa (Villahermosa, Tabasco), "Call for women artists" and "Landscape and Still Life" (2014), at the Yuri López Kullins Gallery (Mexico City).

I have also devoted my time to Cultural Management projects:

  • Cultural workshops to promote the arts in the community of San Miguel Amatlán (Oaxaca's Sierra Norte) with the initiation to painting projects (2016) on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the community and also with the Scientific Drawing proposal: bird watching , addressed to the students of the Telesecundaria de Amatlán (2017)

  • Mask workshop, as a complement to a butoh dance workshop for students from the University of Washington (2015)

  • Tempera workshop at the Zegache Community Workshops (Oaxaca City, 2014)

Since 2014, I collaborate as part of the IDEA team (Impulsora para el Desarrollo Educativo y Artístico), in projects focused on visual arts and cultural management training in the State of Oaxaca, having the opportunity to travel throughout the different regions of the State of Oaxaca:
